2017 “Tim Tebow bills”

Senate bill 6 has been introduced on 2/8/2017.  It is very similar to last year’s bill.  It is well written and inclusive of both home schooled and private schooled children. (Bill is in references section.)
House bill 2196 has been introduced on 2/8/2017.  It is basically a revision to the WVSSAC rules allowing home schooled students to participate in sports and band.  This bill does not include private school students. (Bill is in reference section.)
Both bills need to be heard in the Education Committee first.  As this bill should include equal participation for all students,  Senate Bill 6 should be the focus for passage.
The best place to start is to contact the Senate Education Committee chair:
Senator Kenny Mann and ask him to put this on the agenda for vote.  Contact information: kenny.mann@wvsenate.gov
Capitol Phone: (304) 357-7849  Home Phone: (304) 646-6089
It is also important is to contact other Senate Education Committee Members (please see references for attached list of members) so they can put pressure on Senator Mann. The vice-chair is Senator Karnes, who is a home schooling parent!
You can follow the progression of the bill at www.legis.state.wv.us  under Bill Status.  Just type in number of the bill (without letters).
Thanks and spread the word!
